Teatro La Fenice, Venezia

Speranza

Teatro La Fenice

The theatre was designed by Antonio Selva in 1792.

It was burned down in 1836, but completely restored by Meduna in its original style, which is sparkling Rococo, rare in Italy, with a sobering touch of Neo-classicism, due perhaps to Meduna.

The horseshoe-shaped auditorium with tiers of boxes, and a wide rectangular proscenium arch, of which the Fenice is such an elegant example, made its first appearance in the Teatro Farnese by Gian Battista Aleotti built at Parma between 1618 and 1628.
