Speranza
The Carnival of Venice provided Giandomenico Tiepolo with the subject for the frescoes with which he decorated one of the rooms in the Villa Valmarana.
He placed them, as theoy they were easel-paintings, in a "trompe-l'oeil" decor, part of which is the young Moorish page standing at the foot of a flight of make-believe stairs.
Giandomenico had tastes very different from those of his father Giambattista.
The son painted everyday character of Venetian life in preference to the father's sumptuous heroes.
