Grice
e Maturi: l’ implicatura conversazionale -- l’io e l’altro – io e l’altro – i duellisti – filosofia
italiana -- Luigi Speranza (Amorosi). Filosofo. Grice: “There are two main things I love about
Maturi, and I hate it when philosophers just dismiss him as an ‘Italian,’ or
worse, ‘Neapolitan’ Hegelian – as when they refer to me as a member of the
Oxford school of ordinary language philosophy! The first is his typically
Neapolitan-hegelian school account of what he calls ‘autocoscienza
recognoscitiva,’ which is something I do take for granted in my conversational
theory of inter-ratiationality; the second is his elaboration of what he calls
the passage from the non-human animal to the ‘human-animal’ in a sort of
pirotological passage.” Grice: “What I like about him is that he considers each
‘stage’ as just as fundamental as the other; which implicates that actually the
‘higher’ stage has a ‘foundation’ on the previous one. Here ‘foundational’
makes perfect sense; and it gives Maturi an excuse to rather pompously label
the concept: ‘forma fondamentali’ of the ‘vita.’ It’s exactly like my soul
progression, -- which I explore in ‘Philosophy of Life.’” It is not surprising
that Gentile loved Maturi and forwarded his “Introduction to philosophy.” sDocente
all'insegnamento liceale presso l'istituto Umberto I della città partenopea.
Inizia una corrispondenza con Croce e Gentile, i maggiori esponenti
dell'idealismo italiano, ai quali fu legato da un rapporto di amicizia. Saggi: “Soluzione
del problema fondamentale della filosofia” – Grice: “He implicates there is
one. Cf. Strawson, Solution to the problem of the king of France’s hair loss.” “Bruno.”
Grice: “Italians seem to have a predilection for philosophers who were burned.”
“L'ideale del pensiero umano; ossia, la esistenza assoluta di Dio.” Grice: “For
Kant, and my friend D. F. Pears, existence is not a predicate, for another of
my friends, J. F. Thomson, it is!” “Uno
sguardo generale sulle forme fondamentali della vita” Grice: “The key concept
is ‘forma fondamentale’ as applied to ‘vita.’ -- Grice: “My favourite is his description of
the ‘forma fondamentale’ of the ‘vita’ of the non-human animal to the ‘forma
fondamentale’ of the ‘vita’ of the human animal.” L'idea di Hegel. Grice: “When
I told Hardie that I was reading “The idea of Hegel,” he said, ‘what do you
mean, ‘of’?” “For Maturi, it’s the same, and it is delightful to see that he
can quote Hegel in ‘Deutsche’ without caring to translate! Them was the days
when European languages counted!” La filosofia e la metafisica” Grice: “The
‘and’ is aequivocal: cf. Durrell, “My family and the animals.”“Principî di
filosofia” (apparently by Spaventa – Maturi has an introduction to philosophy).
Grice: “I must confess that I love the word principle, but again, Hardie would
say, what do you mean ‘of’ – my principle of conversational helpfulness – or
when I speak of the principle of conversational self-love and the complementary
principle of conversational benevolence,” I’m not sure who I apply it to! The
conversationalist like me, I s’ppose.” “Una
relazione scolastica.” Grice: “He doesn’t mean Russell.” “But what he means is
a syllabus which is illustrative of Neapolitan Hegelianism!” Dizionario
