Fontana di Nettuno, Piazza Navona, Roma

Speranza

Rome's countless fountains are this solemn city;'s main escape into fancy.

Several of them were designed by Jacopo della Porta in the 16th century, including that of the Rotonda, and htose of the Piazza Navona, to which central figures were added several hundred years later.

So as ti respect the existing harmony, the sculptor Antonio della Bitta took inspiration from a Nettuno by Bernini (today in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London) to adorn the fountain at one of the corners of the Piazza Navona.
