Linking Renaissance and Baroque, the Turtle fountain was for a long time attributed to Raphael because of its grace.
It is in fact the work of Giacomo della Porta.
The charm of the subject and the skill of its composition enhance the supple and sinous lines of the bodies of the four youths added by Taddeo Landini.
The fountain owes its name to the four small bronze turtles which, seeming to be drinking at the edge of the basin, add a note of intimacy to the whole.
