According to Giamblico di Calcide, a Pythagorean, one of those who studied with Pythagoras himself. He achieved a repulation as a legislator. It is said that when he found out he had accidentally broken one of his own laws, he committed suicide. Whether he was ever a Pythagorean at all is now widely questioned. Substantial portions of a work on laws attributed to him survive.
