Whereas Amfortas can only dully fix his gaze at the holy vessel, Parsifal can hear its cry.
While Amfortas stares direcdy and thus monstrously at the Grail and at Woman, and thus loses his masculinity as the voice of law and the law of voice, Parsifal doesn't.
