Alfonso Garulli (Tenor) (Bologna 1858/1866 - Bologna 1915)

 

 

 

The tenor Alfonso Garulli had a successful career in the leading Italian opera theatres and sang among other things at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples (1884) and at the Teatro Costanzi, Rome (1888).

 

At La Scala he appeared in 1887 in the premiere of the opera ‘’Flora Mirabilis’’ of Spiro Samara, in the 1896-97 season as Samson in ‘’Samson et Dalila’’ of Saint-Saéns and as Araquil in ’’La Navarraise’’ of Massenet.

 

In 1897 he helped at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice in the premiere of the opera ‘’La Falena’’ of Antonio Smareglia.

 

He also guested in big opera houses abroad, thus in 1885 and 1887 at Covent Garden, London (as Jose in ‘’Carmen’’ and as Nadir in "Pescatori di Perle"-- tenore bizetiano!) and in 1887 at the Kroll Theatre, Berlin.

 

He was married the soprano Ernestina Bendazzi-Garulli (1864-1931).
