Luigi Speranza
Doria decided on 28 family groups or alberghi headed by the most important families.
The practice of alberghos was very common in medieval Italy because it allowed families to enlarge their power by the adoption of other families into the greater family group.
The 1528 decree was abrogated in 1576 and families were allowed to reclaim their original names.
To be one of the 28 names, the family must have had six heads of family in Genova.
The 28 families were:
1. Calvi
2. Cattaneo
3. Centurione
4. Cibo
5. Cicala
6. de Fornari
7. de Franchi
8. de Marini
9. di Negro
10. Doria
11. Fieschi
12. Gentile
13. Giustiniani
