MAX BYGRAVES -- SINGALONG MEMORIES

Speranza

******************************

MEMORIES pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine
Quiet thought come floating down
And settle softly to the ground
Like golden autumn leaves around my feet
I touched them and they burst apart with sweet memories,
Sweet memories
Of holding hands and red bouquets
And twilight trimmed in purple haze
And laughing eyes and simple ways
And quiet nights and gentle days with you
Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine,
Memories, memories, sweet memories

Everything went wrong,
And the whole day long
I'd feel so blue.
For the longest while
I'd forget to smile,
Then I met you.
Now that my blue days have passed,
Now that I've found you at last -
I'll be loving you ALWAYS
With a love that's true always.
When the things you've planned
Need a helping hand,
I will understand always.
Always.
Days may not be fair always,
That's when I'll be there always.
Not for just an hour,
Not for just a day,
Not for just a year,
But always.
I'll be loving you, oh always
With a love that's true always.
When the things you've planned
Need a helping hand,
I will understand always.
Always.
Days may not be fair always,
That's when I'll be there always.
Not for just an hour,
Not for just a day,
Not for just a year,
But always.
Not for just an hour,
Not for just a day,
Not for just a year,
But always.

I LOVE YOU TRULY truly dear
life with its sorrow life with its tears
fades into dreams when I feel you are near
for I LOVE YOU TRULY truly dear.

just a song at twilight when the lights are low
& the flick’ring shadows softly come & go
tho’ the heart be weary sad the day & long
still to us at twilight comes love's old song-- comes LOVE’S OLD SWEET SONG.

O give me a home where the buffalo roam
where the deer & the antelope play
where seldom is heard a discouraging word
& the skies are not cloudy all day.
home  HOME ON THE RANGE
where the deer & the antelope play
where seldom is heard a discouraging word
& the skies are not cloudy all day
How often at night
where the heavens are bright
with the light of the glittering stars
have I stood there amazed & asked as I gazed
if their glory exceeds that of ours
then give me a land where the bright diamond sand
flows leisurely down to the stream
where the graceful white swan goes gliding along
like a maid in a heavenly dream
o I would not exchange my old HOME ON THE RANGE
where the deer & the antelop play
where the seldom is heard a discouraging word
& the skies are not cloudy all day

Let's Do It

another bride another June
another sunny honeymoon
another season another reason -- for
MAKIN’ WHOPEE
a lot of shoes, a lot of rice
the groom is nervous, he answers twice
it's really killin' that he's so willin'
to make whoopee
picture a little love nest
down where the roses cling
picture the same sweet love nest
& think what a year can bring
he’s washin' dishes & baby clothes
he’s so ambitious he even sews
but don't forget folks
that's what you get folks for
MAKIN’ WHOPEE

On A Slow Boat To China

Picture me upon your knee
just tea for two and two for tea

Just me for you and you for me alone
Nobody near us to see us or hear us

No friends or relations on weekend vacations
We won’t have it known dear that we own a telephone

Somebody stole my gal

Somebody stole my pal

Somebody came and took her away

She didn't even say she was leavin'

The kisses I love so

He's getting now I know,

And Gee! I know that she

Would come to me if she could see

Her broken hearted lonesome pal

Somebody stole my gal

WHISPERING while you cuddle near me
WHISPERING so no one can hear me
each little whisper seems to cheer me
I know it's true
there's no one dear but you.
WHISPERING why you'll never leave me
WHISPERING why you'll never grieve me
whisper & say that you'll believe me
WHISPERING that I love you

SHINE ON shine on HARVEST MOON up in the sky
I ain't had no lovin’ since April, January, June or July.
snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon
so SHINE ON shine on HARVEST MOON for me & my gal.

I'M ALWAYS CHASING RAINBOWS

watching clouds drifting by

my schemes are just like all my dreams

ending in the sky

some fellows look & find the sunshine

I always look and find the rain

some fellows make a winning sometime

I never even make a gain believe me

I’M ALWAYS CHASING RAINBOWS

waiting to find a little blue bird in vain.

How Deep Is The Ocean?

you must remember this
a kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
the fundamental things apply
AS TIME GOES BY
& when two lovers woo
they still say I love you
on that you can rely
no matter what the future brings
AS TIME GOES BY
moonlight & love songs never out of date.
hearts full of passion jealousy and hate.
woman needs man & man must have his mate
that no one can deny.

it's still the same old story
a fight for love and glory
a case of do or die.
the world will always welcome lovers
AS TIME GOES BY

Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime?

Broadway Melody

Chicago (That Toddling Town)

42nd Street

Lullaby Of Broadway

Shadows on the wall,
I can see them fall
Here and there and ev'rywhere.
Silhouettes in blue,
Dancing in the dew;
Here am I,
Where are you?
In the shadows,
Let me come and sing to you.
Let me dream a song that I can bring to you.
Take me in your arms and let me cling to you,
Let me linger long,
Let me live my song.
In the winter,
Let me bring the spring to you,
Let me feel that I mean ev'rything to you.
Love's old song will be new,
In the shadows, when I come sing and to you.
In the shadows, when I come sing and to you.
In the shadows,
In the shadows,
In the shadows,
 In the shadows,
Let me come and sing to you.
Let me dream a song that I can bring to you.
Take me in your arms and let me cling to you,
Let me linger long,
Let me live my song.
In the winter,
Let me bring the spring to you,
Let me feel that I mean ev'rything to you.
Love's old song will be new,
In the shadows, when I come and sing-
In the shadows, when I come and sing-
In the shadows, when I come and sing to you
In the winter,
Let me bring the spring to you,
Let me feel that I mean ev'rything to you.
Love's old song will be new,
In the shadows, when I come and sing to you, dear.
In the shadows, when I come and sing to you.

I once had a gown, it was almost new
o the daintiest thing, it was sweet Alice blue
with little forget-me-nots placed here and there
when I had it on I walked on the air
and it wore and it wore and it wore
'til it went, and it wasn't no more
in MY SWEET LITTLE ALICE BLUE GOWN
when I first wandered down into town
I was both so proud and shy as I felt every eye
and in every shop window I primped passing by
then in manner of fashion I'd frown
and the world seemed to smile all around
'till it wilted I wore it I'll always adore it
MY SWEET LITTLE ALICE BLUE GOWN
The little silk worms that made silk for that gown
Just made that much silk and then crawled in the ground
For there never was anything like it before
And I don't dare to hope there will be any more
But it's gone, 'cause it just had to be
Still it wears in my memory
In my sweet little Alice blue gown
When I first wandered down into town I was both proud and so shy, as I felt every eye
And in every shop window I primped passing by
Then in manner of fashion, I'd frown
And the world seemed to smile all around
So it wouldn't be proper if made of silk were another
My sweet little Alice blue gown
I once had a gown it was almost new
o the daintiest thing it was sweet "Alice" blue
with little forget-me-nots placed here and there
when I had it on I walked on the air
and it wore and it wore and it wore
'til it went and it wasn't no more

It Might As Well Be Spring

everytime it rains it rains
pennies from heaven
don’t you realize each cloud contains
pennies from heaven
you’ll find your fortune falling all over town
be sure that your umbrella is upside down
trade them for a package of
sunshine & flowers
if you want the things you love
you must have showers
so when you hear it thunder
don’t run under a tree
there’ll be pennies from heaven for you & me.
